Clothing More Than 20,000 Children
Operation School Bell provides children in need with new school clothing and supplies so they can attend school, have greater self-esteem and perform better academically.
When a teacher, counselor or other school worker notices a child who needs appropriate school clothing, he or she notifies the school nurse or health technician who sends home an application form, inviting the parents to participate in Operation School Bell. Families wishing to participate complete the application. After parents receive a Recommendation Form from the school, they call to make an appointment to visit Operation School Bell.
An Assistance League volunteer welcomes the family and assists the children in making their selections. Each child receives new pairs of jeans, brightly colored T-shirts, one jacket, sets of socks and underwear, a backpack filled with school supplies, and a kit of personal grooming products. The family is also given a voucher for new shoes. Students attending schools where uniforms are worn receive required uniform clothing.
Operation School Bell is located at Assistance League of Inland North County's McLaughlin Chapter House.
